Dr. Chris Cruz-Boone is a mother, author, and educator.  She was awarded her Masters and Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from California State University, Northridge.  In 2014, she completed her Doctorate in Educational Leadership with honors at Fresno State University.  Her dissertation discussed completion rates for underrepresented students.

She has been a college professor since 2005 and often speaks at professional education conferences.  Between 2007 and 2016, she was selected to represent contingent CSU teachers as an ambassador in San Diego, New York, Mexico City, Mexico and Edmonton, Canada. During the unforeseen transition to distance learning, she has earned commendation for the more than twenty professional development training sessions she has provided about both effective technology integration and pedagogical strategies.

Over the last ten years, Chris has taken on several shared governance and education leadership roles such as a parliamentarian for the Downtown Elementary Parent Teacher Association (PTA) & as an alternate to the BCSD District Advisory Committee (DAC).  At the University level, she was elected to the statewide Board of Directors of the California Faculty Association from 2012-2017.  She worked those same five years on the California Teacher Association (CTA) Early Childhood committee.

Dr. Chris Cruz-Boone is the Area D Director of the California Community College Association. During the 2019-2020 school year, she completed a Stanford University EPIC Fellowship.

For four generations, Dr. Cruz-Boone’s family, including her own children, have been part of Bakersfield City School District. She is elated to join the board and to work with fellow BCSD leaders that share her passion for public education and serving the families of our community.
